West Flanders Design Prize 2016
The exhibition in Texture Museum was compiled following the four-yearly West Flanders Design Prize. It comprises the submissions by the winning designers or teams and forms a fine ensemble of young designers/designs carefully selected by the jury. The members of the jury were Bram Boo, Leen Creve, Katrien Laporte, Fabiaan van Severen and Lowie Vermeersch.
The winning designers of 2016 are:
Mathilde Vandenbussche: her graduation project, Mathilde still very young at the time, was so successful in convincing the mattress textile manufacturer Deslee Clama of the quality of her work that it immediately started up a whole collection of hers. Which is how Mathilde brought mattresses to life!
Couvreur.Devos: There are only two of them, Bram Couvreur and Björn De Vos, but they operate at a high tempo. In recent years these designers have created dozens of light fittings, and also a champagne bucket, ovens, a kitchen and a reception barn. www.couvreurdevos.be
Tim Bisschop: It was a good four years ago when he set up his own graphics studio. Since then his name has circulated in cultural circles and he has been making highly acclaimed books with the leading photographers Anton Corbijn and Stephan Vanfleteren. www.houtkaaizeven.be
We became aware: It is not by chance that their firm’s name contains the word ‘we’. The graphic designers Valentijn Goethals and Tomas Lootens of We Became Aware are constantly engaging new artists, designers and architects to collaborate with even Rem Koolhaas. www.webecameaware.com
