Junya Ishigami, guest of honour of the Design Biennale INTERIEUR 2010, is awarded the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale for Architecture. The jury of the 12th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice has awarded the Golden Lion for best project to Ishigami. The installation "Architecture as air: study for château la coste" explores a new form of transparency that transcends the concepts of lightness and material, which are key features of the Japanese architect's design style.
His Drop Table, Garden Plate and Family Chair, made for Living Divani (IT), will feature in the special installation Picnic that Ishigami is preparing for the Biennale, where he is guest of honour.
Entries for the Interior Design Competition 2010 closed on 15 July. No fewer than 223 participants from 27 countries, including Australia, Brazil, Denmark, Germany, Mexico, the Netherlands, Poland, Russia, South Korea and Switzerland are taking part in this year's prototype competition. All objects entered will be shown at the Interior Design Biennial 2010 in the Underground. The Interior Design Competition 2010 is consequently the ideal platform to be discovered and to bring new, trail-blazing designs to a wide public.
The international panel of judges will convene on Monday, 30 August to decide on the winning entries and distribute the prizes. They will be looking not only for new and creative ideas, but also for functionality, technology and reproducibility. The panel will be composed of designers and captains of industry such as Giulio Cappellini (IT), Nipa Doshi (IND), Marcus Fairs (UK), Pierre Keller (CH) and Lowie Vermeersch (BE).
The hosts and hostesses of each edition of the international Interior Design Biennial are clothed by a Belgian designer. Cléo Baele and Sarah Bos are the creative brains behind this young Ghent-based label.
