The Biennale Interieur 2012 will broaden its horizon and expand with a series of new partnerships. The broad cultural program will take place at various locations in the city of Kortrijk. One of our exciting new initiatives is Ventura Interieur, a partnership with Organisation in Design. Young designers, new companies or academies will get a platform to present cutting-edge, new products on multiple locations within the Biennale. Biennale INTERIEUR 2012 invades the city of Kortrijk

Design connoisseurs, know that the Biennale Interieur, taking place in October, is a fair like no other and one not to miss. For the first time in its long history, the Biennale INTERIEUR 2012 extend in different locations within the city of Kortrijk, breaking through the walls of the exhibition venue. An extended cultural program will take place along a pathway through the city and will form a lively and creative hub. A large number of cultural satellite events can be discovered together with the more then 300 international exhibitors.
"There's need and place for an open platform which enriches and strengthens our own selection with a more avant-garde and cutting edge spirit our critical and international audience is looking for," says Lowie Vermeersch, president of the Biennale Interieur. That's why different young designers, avant-garde companies, organisations, schools and institutions are more then welcome to show their talent in this new venue."

TAKE PART IN THE RENEWED INTERIEUR DESIGN AWARDS

Products - preferably with high design content - are the main subject matter of traditional design competitions. The output usually includes the umpteenth chair for an even better posture or another bathroom mixer for saving even more water. The new Interieur Design Awards intend to venture beyond all this, and alongside existing product categories, now introduce a new category called 'space'.
Inspired by the Bruno Vermeersch pamphlet entitled 'Tom Thumb and the Seven-League-Boots', the Interieur Biennale not only invites product developers and designers to reflect upon products for tomorrow. It also calls on artists, architects, space planners and all creative talents to introduce suggestions which play upon and enhance the present trend of DIY design. Alongside well-designed product aimed at the mass market, the Interieur Design Awards also invite proposals for an interior space of 30 m2. Such smaller living areas can function as work or leisure spaces or just to allow a momentary escape from reality.
Ideas and prototypes for both categories can be submitted until the end of April 2012. The international jury who will decide the winning entries includes designer Tomás Alonso (ES), design retailer Sheikh Majed Al-Sabah (KW), journalist Felix Burrichter (DE), graphic designer Sara De Bondt (BE), artist Jan De Cock (BE), Torafu architects (JP) and architect/designer Oskar Zieta (PL).
Alongside the winning projects, a selection of competition entries will also be on display during the 23rd Interieur Biennale. The Vermeersch pamphlet, competition rules and information about the prizes are available for download at www.interieur.be/awards.
